Dear Esther, the game that's not a game.
So I've been following this for a long time and it looks really interesting and unique. It's hard for me to explain but I really love atmospheric games like this, I thought LIMBO was so amazingly good due to it. Dear Esther has no goal or set path. You game itself is basically a story.

As of now it's PC only, the reason I put it here is because I think a lot of you would like it. You don't need a gaming PC or 1337 xXKeyboard and MouseXx skills to play it.

So, it's kinda like an interactive audiobook?

Yeah I think so :/.
I was going to say anyway, if any of y'all are interested in a good co-op game on PS3 get Lord of The Rings War In The North. Fantastic game, Beazer and I have been playing it lately.

Re: Dear Esther, the game that's not a game.
I was interested in War in the North until I saw that the whole game is littered with different sized disgusting spiders. WUT TEH FUCK, enough with them already, make just ONE damn game without spiders for fucks sake.
Re: Dear Esther, the game that's not a game.
I don't see what War in the North and spiders have to do with dear esther O_o

Oh yeah I see.
It doesn't have spiders though, as far as I've played.

I saw videos of War in the North, it was littered with them. Disgusting.

Beazer says there are spiders in one section but none in the rest. I knew you were scared of them but didn't know it was severe.

Lol, I'm more irked at the fact that every fantasy game that comes out has to have spiders. :> It's like a RULE.
Re: Dear Esther, the game that's not a game.
He's got a point

Did Beazel just refer to the great Baldur's Gate as baldur's derp?
Shit just got real.
Also for some reason the prices aren't being shown on Steam but here is the UK and US price for Dear Esther:
US - $9.99
UK - £6.99

Re: Dear Esther, the game that's not a game.
*walks in*
OMG ITS OUT TOMORROW BY WHICH I MEAN 12 HOURS LATER TODAY *SQUEALS WITH GLEE*
I've always been a fan of games that provide me with little direction... and wind up being trial and error, figuring out exactly what's going on.
For $10, I'll gladly have this, even if it's only 1 or 2 hours in length.
And if you're like me, and dig this kind of creepy, exploratory, WTF IS GOING ON gameplay, consider checking out:
-Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason (best. game. story. ever. It was glitchy as all hell, and ran about as smooth as my knees slide across pavement, but holy shit the story)
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. : Shadow of Chernobyl
-HL2: Lost Coast (I'm specific for a reason. this short, one-level, free add-on was by far the weirdest, creepiest thing in HL2)
-Penumbra (either game, they're hidden gems, miles better than Amnesia, which I honestly found a bit silly)

I got this game today, jolly good I must say. It creates a very odd atmosphere and allows for prettay screenshots:

Re: Dear Esther, the game that's not a game.
Dear Esther is a game.
It's a puzzle game, to be precise.
A fucking brilliant one, in which you're given no objects, no task other than to walk around.
The puzzle is putting the story together. How successful you are determines how rewarding you find the game.
This was, without question, the most poignant, shocking, beautiful piece of entertainment to be released in the last decade.
