Adventures in pre-ordering Blands 2
So there I was. Minding my own business.
AND THEN BAM.
Steam discounts the pre-order for Borderlands 2 by 10%.
And I'm all like "AWWW DAMN DAT IS SUM SAVIN'S SHIT YO" in my best Oprah impersonation, and I click the "Give Steam More of Your Money, you Sheep" button.
And just like that, I have Borderlands 2.
Anyway, it's discounted off 10% on Steam (that means it's down to $54, if you're a silly American, not sure how it'll be priced in other countries). Pre-order bonuses are a bit weak, IMO. You get an upgrade for free to the Vault Hunter Club Edition or something like that. This includes:
-Gearbox Golden Gun Pack
-Key to a treasure chest for a rare item
-Something called the "Vault Hunter's Relic"
-A 5th class, the mechromancer planned as DLC, for free when it comes out
So yeah, if you were planning on getting it, you can save yourself a few bucks.
Just letting you all know.

Re: Adventures in pre-ordering Blands 2
I didn't know there was a fifth character, that sounds nice.
What I (and I assume every sensible gamer) don't like about pre-order bonuses though is receiving overpowered items that cause the SINGLE player game to become shorter and easier. Not sure why anyone would want to ruin their own experience like that. "IF YOU PRE-ORDER NOW YOU GET A CODE THAT LETS YOU SKIP TO THE END BOSS! BE THE FIRST AMONG YOUR FRIENDS TO FINISH THE GAME!".
So is that what that relic and golden guns n' stuff is? OUPEE?

It's only 10% off if you have Borderlands 1.
This is a much better deal:

Ahh, Biggles did not know that, monseuir Lynch. Either way, if you haven't played Borderlands 1, you might as well get GOTY on sale now (see what Valve did there?) and preorder it.
As far as a weapon pack goes, it's more about bragging rights than having OP'd guns, since they're weapons exclusive to people that pre-order.
I dunno if you played Blands one, Mr. Camper, but worrying about length regardless of what happens is something you shouldn't really have to do... it was a solid 30-40 hour game, which is pretty much unheard of as far as FPSes go. (AND YES, WORLD, BLANDS IS AN FPS. HAVING AN EXP BAR DOES NOT MAKE YOU AN RPG.)
Blands 2's AI seems to have improved tremendously, which is appreciated, since the tendency of enemies to.. well... CHAERG in the first game made any gamer with a shotgun overpowered from square one. Hopefully better AI translates to more difficulty.
I actually preferred Borderlands as a single-player game, honestly, as much as it was supposed to be co-op focused. I play at what is a slow, agonizing pace for most people, since I like exploring environments really thoroughly, so it becomes either wait for me to do my thing, and therefore boring for others, or not have as much fun and play the way people want me to.
The pre-order bonus I do care about it the 5th character.
I like what Gearbox did there. It's not a bonus so valuable that you're missing out on lots of content for not pre-ordering, but it's a little thank you that, because Blands is so focused on developing a character, is certainly appreciated.
That all being said, I don't like preordering in general and only made an exception in this case because it made the game $6 cheaper and I would've bought on day one anyway.

Re: Adventures in pre-ordering Blands 2
Yes I played Borderlands and what I meant by "shorter" was getting OP gear = game is less challenging and over faster.
I never downloaded the extra stuff I got with the special edition of Red Dead Redemption because of this.
But yeah, if the bonus stuff is just cosmetic or sidegrades then that's fine.

Re: Adventures in pre-ordering Blands 2
Ah, I see.
I had the weapon pack they gave away as a bonus for buying at certain retailers for the last one. The weapons were great until level 5, and then rapidly outclassed.. so I think everything's okay.
I'm mostly just happy about blands 2 anyway because a developer seems to be addressing every complaint I had, to a bizarrely creepy level, for once.

Hate to be pedantic Biggley Bear but the French word for "Mister" is "Monsieur".
I have to agree with Camper as well. Pre-order bonuses annoy me. With Fallout New Vegas I got some armour that was so damn good that I used it from the start till the end pretty much. I thoroughly enjoyed Fallout New Vegas though and so bought the Ultimate Edition for 75% off in the recent Steam sale. It comes with all the DLC....and every single pre-order bonus.
Still, it was worth it for mods like "Humping the Mojave":
I don't even want to know what going into VATS does. VATS precision fisting? XD
(spoiler for the "more sensitive" amongst us)

I say amongst all the time. Get on my fancy English speaking level scrub!
And I see you're one for pedantry too...I invite you to our meeting:

Felix gets away with "amongst", along (alongst?) with whilst, spilt, and learnt. As well as unnecessary vowels. Colour, honour, favourite.
But it's paycheck, Felixxx! Though pay-cheque looks so fancy.

See, Val knows what's up! Maybe I ought to send her a pay-cheque. I just hope it doesn't get lost amongst all her other mail.
