Next generation consoles

I think it goes without saying that everyone here hopes for a console generation switch in 2013 (either that or it just doesn't make any difference to you), but I got to thinking. I heard that Dark Souls 2 may not be released in 2013 (I guess they're putting a lot of work into it) but that it'll still be developed for the current gen consoles. What do you think of this?
Does it mean that they don't expect new consoles to come out anytime soon?
Or, can they just start developing a game for one system, and later on casually switch to another as it's announced?

Could be they're hoping to replicate the success of a certain other "2" game, God of War 2. Released quite a fair while after the launch of the PS3 if my memory serves me correctly.

I never got the fuss over Demon/Dark Souls but it seems to be a critically acclaimed and popular game so Sony could be pushing it as the swan song of the PS3.

well seeing that it looks to release on pc as well from the beginning, i think it will be next gen...but thats wishful thinking...so that means no its not going to be next gen

probably skip out on consoles for awhile tbh, I'll miss out on some metal gear solid, but i can live with that.

Hm, not that I'm reading anything into it, but maybe I'm reading too much into it (lol). I just reacted when it said, yeah the game probably won't come out in 2013 after all, but it'll still be for current gen. Do they know something we don't? O_O

maybe a port for this gen...but i think with the rising costs of systems on release there is still a large market for this gen...ps2 were selling better than ps3 for a while after ps3's release...but i know what you mean...kinda a waste and wish they would plan for next gen

Might get it sometime for exclusive IP like MGS, 2 of them are coming so I can't miss those.

I'm not expecting massive power but a 4 core CPU is rather old and going to be obsolete rather fast. Oh well, hopefully it is just a rumour.

Why would they say that? Yes, they want to sell tons of units, advertising is about exaggerating, people are idiots etc etc etc ad infinitum. But even a liar has some sort of self-preservation. Why make up something so obviously ridiculous? Like Felix said, hopefully just a rumo(u)r, a misquote, or whatever.

Oh I wasn't so concerned about hyperbole, everyone does that in advertising.

Just more if it is a quad core I mean, that worries me. I think even the PS3 has a better CPU than that.
