Re: PC Gamer thread
I'm alt tabbed whilst the round is ended in BF3, but once I'm done I shall talk about the Totenkopfhusaren and the whole skull thing. If you're interested...

Re: PC Gamer thread
Well anyway the skull is referred to as the "Totenkopf" which means Death's Head in German. I believe it was first used by a Prussian Hussar regiment, who adopted the black uniform and skull. They soon grew in fame as an elite unit. The Nazis, being somewhat enamoured with past German military greats of course, took the name and insignia and used it for the SS, specifically the SS-Death's Head, which was in charge of the concentration camps.
They sure did have a fondness for names and insignia like that though. Kind of like a teenage heavy metal fan of sorts.
Picture gallery:
They cut a jaunty figure. Note the Death's Head on the hats.
And whilst searching I found this print of a Swedish Hussar and a Totenkopfhusaren together. They just don't make uniforms like that these days.
/End of boring history nerd talk.

Re: PC Gamer thread
Yeah, skull is dödskalle in Swedish, also translates directly as death's head. The question humorously asked in the sketch still remains though, why would they choose a skull. Like you said, it seems very juvenile, like teenage metal heads. :'>
That quote from The Talented Mr. Ripley springs to mind; "Whatever you do, however terrible, however hurtful, it all makes sense doesn't it, in your head. You never meet anybody that thinks they're a bad person."
Since they didn't see themselves as "evil" it's kind of strange that they'd want to wear a skull lol. But of course armies have often worn uniforms/symbols/masks in order to instill fear into their enemies, so I suppose that could play a part in it.

Neuro tells me bad news. Dark Souls 2 is one of the worst ports...ever. It's locked at 30fps and can't go higher than 720p. That's just insane.

Re: PC Gamer thread
I did see that, still ridiculous though. PC Gamer put it perfectly, they've literally taken console settings and ported it to PC.Omnirock wrote:there's a user patch that fixes the resolution...
