Oh hey, everyone. You stumbled back upon this. I never really wrapped up the revamped site I promised! That's okay though, I think we all moved on. Some truly lasting friendships and a whole fuckton of drama were developed here in a nice slushy 2:3 ratio. Should you care to find me someday, I'm on Steam. Search "bigglesbringsdanoize" and you should bump into my account. Happy travels, stranger!

is there certain prices on games that will sway your judgement?

as for new games, i will not buy them at full price, no matter what.

if it's something I am really looking forward to, I wait out till it's @ a minimum of 42.99.

something i want, but not really in a rush: 34.99

and if it looks like something i'll play, but on the fence about, 19.99.

Anything that isn't in those 3 categories generally has to wait till it's below 9.99 or i just never buy it.

I don't really have any reason for sharing this with you all, but i am curious to hear if anyone else kinda follows little "budget rules*" when making their purchases.

*although it kinda destroys the budget when you buy more than 30 games in 2 weeks :/

Very interesting topic actually.

Some games I'd consider to be top bracket and I'll pay full price for them easily. For an example of his year I paid £24 for Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai because I really wanted it. If I waited a week I could've got it for £16 from Amazon but I didn't regret it.

Same with Hitman. I just got it now for £20 when I could get it free in a month with my new GPU. I don't mind, I love Hitman and want to play it as soon as possible.

Other games, I'm pretty lax. I want Assassin's Creed but it's £38 now for PS3, a tad extortionate. I'm content with binding my time.

I don't have as specific rules as you do, but I definitely never buy AAA games at their launch prices. I have a little place, online, that somehow sells them at a reduced price with free shipping, I shop there if it's a game I absolutely have to get on launch.
Otherwise I'll wait for sales.

I don't buy nearly as many games as you do though.

Here we're gonna get into the one problem with being a bear that loves a good story in his game:

If it's a AAA title with a focus on story, I'll buy it digitally or retail as soon as I see a preorder bonus that's 10% off or more.

See, the problem with AAA titles is that lots of people play them. And people are stupid, and spoil things without warning you. I will also pay full price if a game is A) reviewing very well as an average, and B) I trust the developer/publisher to give me an experience that matches the high price.

Otherwise, I refuse to pay more than $10 for a game, and that's why most of my purchases are made over Steam/GoG/etc.

Related, I found this nifty little site:

http://www.steamcalculator.com/

See how much your Steam library is worth. A lot of these games I didn't buy at full price but oh well:

I want to see Omni's (GOO).

It said mine was worth $1398.05.

But it's not very good at its job.

Counts games you can only buy in a collection for the full price twice.

So, for example, Breath of Death VII/Cthulhu Saves the World are each listed at $3 as separate games, but you can only buy them in the double pack for $3.

Oh and I don't have any rules on price, if I want it I'll get it, if I kind of want it, I might get it. Just depends.

Damn it, I thought the gif would overlap on lower resolutions Sad

Biggles's avatar, I found that. It's from the "Did you know?" section of this:

http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-siberia-v2

That picture alone makes me wary of buying it.

Found 200 Games with a value of
$2970.01 USD

doesn't count all DLC either, but some other fun facts:

9 years on steam
first game actually bought ON steam: World in Conflict: Soviet Assault
last game bought ON steam: Zombie Driver HD

games with the most hours played* (counted):
Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead: 440 hours
Team Fortress 2: 148 hours
World in Conflict Soviet Assault: 112 hours
Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012: 110 hours (to be fair, i've fallen asleep with this game on numerous times)
Shogun 2: 101 hours

*If this were to count the hours i spent playing counter strike and team fortress classic, they'd easily be in the top spots.

I came late to Steam, I fell out of PC gaming a bit from 2008 to 2010 as I was really busy with moving/living overseas and just didn't have the time for that much gaming at all. Mostly stuck with older games as my PC was old.

As of now my top 5 games are:

Red Orchestra 2: 115 hours
Killing Floor: 98 hours
Shogun 2: 89 hours
Skyrim: 56 hours
Empire Total War: 48 hours

A bit off though due to my usage of offline mode. Taking that into account I'd say Shogun 2 is first, with ARMA 2 also having a lot more playtime than is listed. Same with Empire and Skyrim too.

Of all time...now that's an interesting thought. I'd say Age of Empires 2, played it a ridiculous amount. Medieval II: Total War, Lord of the Rings: Battle For Middle Earth and BF: Vietnam would be runners up. For console, Pro Evolution Soccer 5, LMA Manager 2001 or GTA: VC.
