Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
I actually have to say I'm impressed. Kudos to Treyarch for moving away from the rather overdone modern military shooter and moving into something different. I only played Black Ops on a Steam free weekend but I thought it was actually quite good, MW3 is decent as well so I'm keeping my eye on this. Blops reminded me of COD4 and I absolutely loved that so hopefully this'll follow the same trend. Excellent customisation system as well. The whole "hackers taking over drone army" plot point seems a tad far fetched though :p
TBH Omni, Neuro and I were talking about this last night that the COD games by themselves are pretty good, I just hate the BS that goes on around it. Hopefully the PS3 and PC versions get due care, somewhat lacking in the recent MW games.

Haha, you and your robots. But aren't you scared of like, all those mechanical devices and statues and things in Uncharted, which is pretty much your favorite game series?

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
I think Val was traumatized by a childhood viewing of The Terminator .
I'm scared of pussies. Cats I mean. Watching the play "Cats" was scarier than The Exorcist for me.
Interesting list Campuh, although I think the "China controls 95% of rare earth minerals" to be a tad far fetched from Treyarch.

LOL it's Crysis of Duty/Call of Deus Ex.
On a serious note, this is probably the best chance the CoD series has of actually changing on a radical scale. But I fear that if this game underperforms, Activision will be reluctant to try again and just insist that the franchise goes all "Tony Hawk".

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Borrowing your thread a bit, sorry:
I've never played any CoD game online, well except for Zombies. But I've seen countless Let's Plays, Road to Commander series etc, and I got to thinking, all (?) CoD games have that mechanic where if one team goes too far into the enemy spawn the spawns flip. Is this a good thing overall and are there any obvious cons to it? How come more games don't use this to prevent spawn camping? Or maybe they do and I just haven't played them.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Prevent spawn camping? Last I heard, controlling... ahem, "controlling" the spawns is a technique used in CoD competitive (lol) gaming.
Also, a lot of games nowadays all have some form or dynamic respawn that mirror's CoDs for team deathmatch-like modes, and if not, chances are it's a completely random respawn mode.

Yeah, I know the übernerds who do nothing but play CoD day and night know exactly how far they can go before the spawns flip and exactly where to aim to kill respawners, but just as an idea. BC2 was horrible when it came to spawnrappin'.

it's not any better imo. you still end up spawning right in front of people.

Sure, swapping sides doesn't help much when all maps are 10 square meters in size *smirk*

One of the most annoying things about COD4 nowadays is people insist on playing 20vs20 matches.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
I don't honestly see how the new CoD is any different, really...
That's like saying Black Ops 1 was a bold new direction for the franchise. Reskin =/= new gameplay mechanics, which is really where modern shooters have gone stale.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Well, people don't want extreme change and innovation withing the separate genres. An FPS is an FPS, and FPS multiplayer is what it is. People want familiarity, after all you buy and play a certain game because you want that precise experience. I see what you mean though of course, and as usual I agree to a certain extent.
But I don't know, all these "super innovative" indie games that claim to be some sort of evolution, I often (but not always) find them to just be silly, pretentious and gimmicky. I think evolution and innovation has to be made very, very slowly and gradually, otherwise people will feel alienated. I don't think we love new things quite as much as we pretend to.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
It's hard to say so far, but I think the "COD never changes" thing is overblown. MW2 to MW3, yeah they're pretty much clones but same "it's a reskin" thing could be said for BF2-BF2142. Black Ops was pretty good with the unlock system I thought, a lot less grind factor than the other games.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
And honestly, BF3 is probably the biggest gear grinder so far when it comes to FPSs...
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Nah, MW3 tops it .
I loved BC2's system TBH. If you go over the top like in BF3 it punishes you for trying new guns. Like I love the L96, 231 kills, and have all the stuff I need for it, but it's broken now after the last patch. It's a pain getting RDS and straight pull bolt for the other recon rifles.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
I dunno, unlocks for all the classes, all the separate guns, then all vehicles, planes... Seems like BF3 has passed even MW3. :S
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
I guess the vehicle unlocks do tip the scales a tad. I think TB made a video about this actually. It also makes a problem of the BF series, beginners and vehicles, even worse. DICE y u no make tutorial mode or something.
